All good things must come to an end, but not before a series of morning research and didactic lectures from Ron Heeren (Imaging), Joe Loo (Top Down Proteomics), and Harry Taylor (Protein Footprinting). After coffee, it was time to hear more from some of our students. On the Sunday evening faculty voted on their favourite posters, and the winners were invited to give a 10 minute presentation on their research.

This year, our winners were:

  1. Pedro Almeida (Karolinska Institutet, Sweden)
    • Mucosal IgA glycosylation profiles following SARS-CoV-2 and Influenza infections
  2. Lena Teschke (University of Münster, Germany)
    • Challenges in Combining Immunofluorescence with MALDI-MSI for Multimodal Single-Cell Analysis
  3. Lydia Fenson (University of Gothenburg, Sweden)
    • “Delineating A-beta Plaque Associated Lipid Co-Aggregation Dynamics Using Pulse-Chase Spatial Multiomics”
  4. Erika Penannen (University of Eastern Finland, Finland)
    • “Targeted drug delivery strategies for retinoblastoma – novel mass spectrometric tools for mapping molecular composition in ocular tissues”

Congratulations to the winners, and thank you for some brilliant presentations by all.

The afternoon saw Boris Bartolec (Selvitia) introduce DMPK, followed by three workshops running simultaneously which students could choose from: Clinical Studies and Applications (Laura Bindilla), Constructing Scientific Graphics (David Kilgour) and a further session on the Skills that Industry Value (Andreas Baumeister and Immo Colonius). The closing lecture of the week was given by Oliver Fiehn.

MSBM concluded with a Banquet meal held as CAAS, the MSBM Chair gave some remarks and thanked faculty and students for building another successful year.

There are hundreds of graduates of MSBM over the last 25 years. As always, it has been a privilege to host another year of brilliant young minds taking some of their earliest steps in mass spectrometry and form connections which will foster new innovations and collaborations for years to come.

Thank you once again to our sponsors for the 2025 event – Altium, Brechbuhler, Bruker Daltonics, Shimadzu, ThermoFisher Scientific, Vibrat-Ion and Waters – your continue support is invaluable. Thank you also to our invited faculty for 2026, who have treated our students to a wealth of knowledge.

MSBM will be hosted again in Dubrovnik from the 5th-10th July 2026…
