Every year, MSBM is hosted in a location that offers not only a fantastic academic setting, but also an unforgettable experience outside of the lecture theatre. In 2026, we return to the historic city of Dubrovnik for the 18th time.

Set just along the Adriatic Coast, MSBM is hosted at the Centre of Advanced Academic Studies at the University of Zagreb which is just a stones throw away from the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Dubrovnik’s historic Old Town.

Students have the opportunity to explore the city during breaks in the schedule, as well as during free evenings when the sun sets and the town comes alive. From the marble streets of the Old Town to the bustling cafés, bars, and restaurants tucked within its walls, there’s so much to discover. Whether it’s enjoying dinner with your new friends overlooking the Adriatic, wandering through the lit streets, or taking in the atmosphere along the city walls, Dubrovnik offers the perfect setting to unwind after a day of soaking up mass spectrometry knowledge.

On Wednesdays we set sail to Lokrum Island, just a 10 minute voyage across the Adriatic Sea. Just minutes from the Old Town, Lokrum is a protected nature reserve, offering a relaxed environment to unwind after the morning sessions.

Lokrum is also the venue for a long-standing MSBM tradition – the annual Students vs Faculty Volleyball Tournament. Faculty remain undefeated, so could you be the difference and turn the tide for the Student team in 2026? The Lokrum trip also offers a wonderful chance to swim in the Adriatic, exploring the island gardens, enjoy the local wildlife, or hike to the fort to enjoy the view, it’s a chance to connect with peers and faculty.

There’s so much more to explore than can fit in this short article, including the opportunity to join some of our faculty on a hike up the mountain at sunrise, our banquet dinner in the CAAS courtyard, swim breaks just around the corner at Dance Beach. There’s only one way to learn about it all – by joining us!

Does Dubrovnik sound like the sort of place you’d like to enjoy a crash course in all things mass spectrometry related? You can learn the fundamentals, share your work, and network with both peers and the members of our world leading faculty. Registration for MSBM 2026 is open, so make sure you secure your spot!
